Learn To Play Program Level 2 Skill Development Expectations Coaches as a league we want to develop the skills and the game of softball. This season we want to help coaches stay on track developing our learning players so that the kids can make the step to mite ball as seamless as possible. Level 2 Is a big step in the development of the kids. Their co-ordination level is increasing as is their size. They have started school on a regular basis and their ability to draw on experiences has increase greatly over level 1. Catching Further development of good fundamentals learned in level 1. Good glove positons, moving feet to get in front of balls. Free hand is used and is ready to throw ball when catch is made. Catching fly balls is a big step in this level so work on it. Picking up grounders in the infield and making the throw to the correct base. Throwing Again further development of good fundamentals learned in level 1. Good mechanics of the throw. Progressions are throwing at moving targets and while moving themselves. Base Running Introduce rounding and jamming when they can’t make the next base. Tagging up on fly balls.Good base running positions, foot at the side of the bag ready to stride as the ball is being pitched. Hitting Kids should be able after the first week or two of the season to hit underhand tosses by the coach. The T might have to be introduced from time to time , but coaches should be pitching for the most part. |
